The Lokpal of India, established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, will commemorate its first Lokpal Day on 16th January 2025, marking a significant milestone in the journey of India’s anti-corruption framework.
This annual observance was officially resolved in a meeting held on 14th March 2024, recognizing the date of the Lokpal’s establishment on 16th January 2014 as a day of national significance.
Grand Celebration in New Delhi
The inaugural Lokpal Day celebration will take place at the Zorawar Auditorium, Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt, beginning at 6 PM. The event will be graced by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Shri Justice Sanjiv Khanna, as the Chief Guest.
The event will also witness the presence of prominent dignitaries, including:
- Judges of the Supreme Court of India
- Chief Justices and Judges of High Courts
- Executive Chairpersons and Members of Legal Services Authorities
- Lokayuktas and Up-Lokayuktas from various states
- Heads of Investigative Agencies and PSUs/Public Banks
Key Highlights of the Event
- Felicitation Ceremony: Hon’ble Attorney General of India Shri R. Venkatramani, Hon’ble Shri Justice N. Santosh Hegde (Former Supreme Court Judge), and Padma Bhushan Shri Anna Hazare will be honored for their remarkable contributions.
- Address by the Chief Justice of India: Shri Justice Sanjiv Khanna will deliver an address highlighting the role and future of the Lokpal, emphasizing its significance in combating corruption and upholding transparency in governance.
Lokpal of India: Current Leadership
On 10th March 2024, Shri Justice A. M. Khanwilkar was sworn in as the second Chairperson of the Lokpal of India. The body currently consists of the Chairperson and six Members, continuing its mission to ensure accountability in public offices.
