New Delhi, 24 DEC 2023: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the momentous program, ‘Mazdooron Ka Hit Mazdooron ko Samarpit,’ where he will hand over a cheque amounting to approximately Rs 224 crore to settle the long-standing dues of Hukumchand Mill workers. The event, slated for 25th December 2023 at 12 noon, will be conducted via video conferencing and signifies a crucial milestone in resolving the workers’ demands.
The Hukumchand Mill workers engaged in a protracted legal battle for their dues since the closure of the Hukumchand Mill in Indore in 1992. The recent resolution, facilitated by the Madhya Pradesh Government, involves the upfront payment of all dues, acquisition of the mill land, and its transformation into a mixed-use residential and commercial space, with the consensus of courts, labor unions, and the workers.
During the program, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a groundbreaking 60 MW Solar power plant in villages Samraj and Ashukhedi, located in Khargone district. The project, spearheaded by the Indore Municipal Corporation, comes at a cost of Rs 308 crore and is expected to yield significant savings of approximately Rs 4 crore per month in the electricity bills of the corporation. Remarkably, the construction of the solar plant was funded through the issuance of green bonds worth Rs 244 crore by the Indore Municipal Corporation, making it the first urban body in the country to do so. The green bonds received an overwhelming response, with subscribers from 29 states contributing about Rs 720 crore, nearly three times the initial value issued.
