Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Cases Detected in Karnataka: ICMR Assures No Unusual Surge

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has detected two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka through routine surveillance aimed at monitoring respiratory illnesses. Both cases were identified as part of ICMR's ongoing nationwide surveillance efforts. HMPV is a globally circulating respiratory virus, and its presence in India is not unusual. According to data from ICMR and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), there is currently no significant surge in Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in the country.
