Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) expands its portfolio by venturing into the logistics business, unveiling the “Namma Cargo-Truck Service” initiative. The launch ceremony, presided over by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, saw the flagging off of 20 fully-equipped cargo trucks, signifying the corporation’s foray into the non-ticket revenue sector.
With an ambitious plan to induct 100 trucks within a month and 500 trucks within a year, KSRTC aims to boost its non-ticket revenue significantly. The Basaveshwara bus station at Peenya will serve as the depot for operations and maintenance, with remaining space utilized for government companies to generate commercial revenue.
In strategic partnerships, KSRTC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KMS Coach Builders Pvt. Ltd. for rental services of cargo trucks over two months. Additionally, an agreement with S.M. Kannappa Automobiles (P) Ltd. for a one-month period marks a noteworthy milestone in the transportation sector, as confirmed by KSRTC officials.
Managing Director of KSRTC, V. Anbukumar, highlighted the corporation’s evolution in the logistics domain, initiated in 2021 under the brand “Namma Cargo” for parcel services in KSRTC route buses. The newly introduced “Namma Cargo-Truck Service” comes equipped with GPS technology, ensuring secure, speedy, and reliable goods transportation.
Key features of the trucks include dedicated services for transporting goods across Karnataka, utilizing closed containers to ensure security. The service covers routes from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumkuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, and Davanagere to various destinations within Karnataka.
