India Set to Celebrate 14th National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2024

The 14th National Voters’ Day (NVD) is set to be celebrated on January 25, 2024, with the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presiding over the national function in New Delhi. The Election Commission of India (ECI) will mark its 75th year of service to the nation on this occasion. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, will join as the Guest of Honour. The event will host representatives from Election Management bodies of various countries, including Maldives, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.

During the celebration, the Hon’ble President will confer the NVD Awards, recognizing the Best Electoral Practices for the year 2023. These awards will honor outstanding performance in diverse areas such as IT initiatives, Security Management, Election Management, Accessible Election, Electoral Roll, and contributions in voter awareness and outreach. Stakeholders, including government departments and media organizations, will also be recognized for their significant contributions to voters’ awareness.

The event will feature the presentation of the first copy of the ECI Publication titled ‘ECI initiatives for General Elections 2024’ to the Hon’ble President by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar. The publication provides a comprehensive overview of initiatives aimed at ensuring free, fair, inclusive, accessible, and participatory elections.

A voter awareness film titled ‘My Vote My Duty,’ produced by ECI in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Shri Raj Kumar Hirani, will be showcased during the event. The film, featuring messages from celebrities, aims to evoke the spirit of democracy and highlight the power of an individual vote.

Coinciding with the 75th year celebration of the ECI, a commemorative postage stamp themed “Inclusive Elections” will be released to mark the occasion, anticipating the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections in 2024.

To enhance voter education and awareness for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections 2024, an innovative multi-media campaign will be launched on National Voters’ Day. Additionally, a multimedia exhibition will showcase the grandeur of Indian elections, electoral reforms, technological advancements, and election management innovations.

Since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The celebration serves the primary purpose of fostering electoral awareness among citizens and encouraging their active participation in the electoral process. The occasion also facilitates the enrollment of new voters, especially the youth, who are felicitated and presented with their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) in various NVD functions held across the country. The celebrations span national, state, district, constituency, and polling booth levels, making it one of the largest such events in the country.
