Ministry of Culture Presents ‘Shakti – Festival of Music and Dance’ Across Seven Sacred Sites

New Delhi, April 9, 2024 (PIB): In a bid to invigorate the rich tapestry of Temple Traditions across India, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, an institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, is set to host the ‘Shakti – Festival of Music and Dance.’ This celebration of culture and spirituality will unfold from April 9th to April 17th, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Navaratri.

Navaratri, a festival symbolizing the divine prowess of nine goddesses, serves as the backdrop for this vibrant festival. Recognizing this symbolism, the Akademi has curated a series of events under the banner ‘Shakti,’ paying homage to the feminine energy inherent in the cosmos.

The inauguration ceremony kicks off today at the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, marking the beginning of a cultural odyssey that will traverse through seven sacred sites across the nation. From the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, to the Shaktipeeth Maa Harsidhi Temple in Jaisinghpur, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, each location holds deep spiritual significance and cultural heritage.

This festival, part of the Kala Pravah series initiated by the Akademi, aims to not only showcase the diversity of Indian performing arts but also to revive and promote temple traditions ingrained in the fabric of Indian society. Through a melange of music, dance, and ritualistic performances, ‘Shakti’ promises to enchant audiences and foster a deeper appreciation for our cultural heritage.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, as the nation’s premier institution for performing arts, has long been dedicated to the preservation, research, and promotion of various art forms. With ‘Shakti – Festival of Music and Dance,’ it continues its mission of nurturing India’s rich cultural legacy and ensuring its vitality for generations to come.
