The selection process involved online applications, allowing sportspersons, coaches, and entities to self-apply through a dedicated online portal. The applications underwent thorough scrutiny by the Selection Committee led by Smt. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary (Sports), Government of India, with members comprising previous awardees, industry associations, sports journalists, experts, commentators, Secretaries (Sports) of State Governments, the Indian Olympic Association, and active sports-oriented non-governmental organizations.
The Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar is one of the six core awards that constitute India’s National Sports Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to sports. The entities honored with the award for 2023 are:
