Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh: Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, visited the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, India’s largest floating solar project, located in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. With a total capacity of 600 MW, this project marks a milestone in India’s renewable energy sector and reflects the nation’s ambition in achieving clean energy goals.
During his visit, Union Minister Joshi emphasized the significance of floating solar technology in overcoming land constraints while maximizing energy production. He noted that water-based solar panels benefit from the cooling effect of water, which improves energy efficiency and output.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park currently has a commissioned capacity of 278 MW.
- The project involves an estimated development cost of ₹330 crore, supported by ₹49.85 crore in Central Financial Assistance.
- Madhya Pradesh has achieved a 14-fold growth in renewable energy capacity over the past 12 years, from less than 500 MW in 2012 to its current significant capacity.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Minister Joshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for their support in advancing India’s renewable energy landscape. He also congratulated stakeholders including Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, NHDC Ltd, AMP Energy Green Pvt Ltd, and SJVN Ltd for their contributions to the project’s success.
The 600 MW solar park is expected to generate over 4,600 million units of clean energy over the next 25 years, making it a vital contributor to India’s renewable energy targets.
As the project approaches full operational capacity, it stands as a testament to India’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and clean energy innovation.
